Role Purpose
To lead and optimise the credit control function, ensuring effective debt management, strong cash flow performance and robust financial controls.
The role is responsible for minimising credit risk, improving cash collection and supporting business performance through accurate reporting, forecasting, and collaboration with key stakeholders. It also drives continuous improvement through team development, process enhancement and the delivery of key projects, including system and structural changes, while maintaining strong relationships across operations, sales, finance and external partners.
Role Responsibilities
- Manage the credit control team, including regular reviews of aged debt against company targets
- Act as the main escalation point for payment issues and resolve queries with operations and finance teams
- Ensure credit control processes are followed and work closely with depot, sales, and operational teams to remove payment obstacles and drive accountability
- Develop the team through coaching, mentoring, and performance management
- Oversee the factoring programme by ensuring timely payments and receipts, assessing credit limits, and reducing non-factorable transactions
- Prepare and analyse month-end balance sheet reconciliations, resolve discrepancies and legacy issues, ensure timely reporting for close, and follow up on outstanding ledger items
- Manage cash flow, including preparing accurate forecasts with customer-level insight, developing cash flow models for planning and banking, and ensuring banking transactions are processed accurately
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate provisions for bad debt and credit risk
- Lead key projects, including transitioning to a single customer account structure, preparing data for a new ERP system, resolving data issues for acquisitions, and supporting integration into the core business
- Work closely with the accounting team across all regular cycles, including month-end, budgeting, and forecasting

- Communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders at all levels
- Provide insightful analysis of customers, debtors and related activity to support decision-making
- Lead and support digital transformation and system improvement projects
- Manage risk and governance within existing frameworks, while strengthening and enhancing controls for the future
