Job Purpose

To support the effective operation of the finance function by ensuring accurate, timely and compliant processing of financial transactions across purchase ledger, sales ledger, banking and payroll activities. The role is responsible for maintaining financial records, managing invoicing and payments, supporting cash flow monitoring and credit control and assisting with financial reporting, budgeting and audit processes.

Working closely with the wider finance team, including the Management Accountant, the position ensures adherence to accounting standards and company policies, contributes to the integrity of financial data and provides responsive support to internal stakeholders and customers.

The role also plays a key part in payroll administration across UK and EU operations, credit management and continuous improvement of financial processes to support informed business decision making.

 

Job Duties

  • Raise purchase orders in line with company policies
  • Create and send invoices accurately and on time
  • Record payments and follow up on overdue invoices
  • Make payments using BACS, CHAPS and SWIFT
  • Check bank statements and complete daily reconciliations
  • Manage and issue petty cash correctly
  • Gather and submit data for EU VAT fuel reclaims
  • Keep financial records well organised (paper and digital)
  • Help prepare reports, budgets and forecasts
  • Monitor cash flow and track overdue payments
  • Support the Management Accountant with cost reports
  • Help with audit tasks by providing needed information
  • Run credit checks and set up new customer accounts
  • Cover team members when needed
  • Answer invoice queries by email and phone
  • Process weekly and monthly payroll (UK and EU)
  • Add new employees to payroll and provide reports to senior leaders

 

Skills Required

  • Experience in finance, ideally in purchase and sales ledger
  • Accurate with strong attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and other financial systems
  • Strong verbal and written customer service skills
  • Organised, proactive and able to prioritise tasks effectively
  • Able to build strong relationships with colleagues
